Leo’s Lumberjack 1st Birthday Party: Rustic & Adorable Party Ideas for Your Little One
I am so excited to share the sweet and rustic details from Leo’s lumberjack-themed 1st birthday party! When choosing a theme a classic lumberjack party felt like the perfect fit—cozy, woodsy, playful, and full of opportunities for fun décor and activities.
This theme allowed us to blend rustic textures, woodland details, and whimsical elements that made the day memorable for both the kids and adults.
Rustic Lumberjack Party Decor
We started with our favorite go-to for rustic parties—burlap linens. They added the perfect natural texture to the table. To introduce bold patterns, we layered:
A black and white buffalo plaid table runner
A matching green and white buffalo plaid Happy Birthday banner from our printable collection
A charming pinecone garland for woodland flair
These layered patterns helped create a warm, cozy, lumberjack-inspired tablescape.
Woodland Dessert Table with Rustic Decor
The backyard’s natural trees served as a beautiful woodland backdrop for the dessert and snack table. Instead of competing with the scenery, we enhanced it with a few tabletop Alpine trees for height and depth.
The star of the table was a stunning 3-tier rustic wood stand from Shindiggity Shopped, filled with delicious S’mores cupcakes from our local favorite Frost bakery. On each side of the cupcake display, we added working white lanterns—turned on at dusk for the perfect campfire glow.
For the main cake, we kept things simple and sweet with a three-layer rustic log-style cake, topped with a “1” and Alpine Spruce cake toppers from our printable collection.
Lumberjack-Themed Kids Activity: Campfire Play Tent
One of our favorite elements—doubling as both a birthday gift and a party prop—was a handmade felt campfire set. The kids loved gathering around it inside the play tent (also a birthday gift!), which served as a fun party activity.
Inside the tent, we created a full campfire play kit complete with:
A working green lantern
Toy camp stove
Kids’ cooking tools
A compass
Perfect for imaginative woodland play!
Woodland Snacks & Drinks for Preschoolers
Since our guests were primarily preschool-aged, we kept the snack table simple and kid-friendly. We served:
Bear graham crackers labeled “Don’t Feed the Bears”
Goldfish crackers labeled “Go-Fish”
Both displayed on rustic wooden stands for a camp-inspired look.
For drinks, we served apple juice—aka “Ale”—in a mason jar beverage dispenser.
Place settings included:
Red square plates for a pop of color
Rippled kraft paper cups for easy snacking
Red drink cups
Personalized Leo Moose napkins
After dinner, we gathered around the real fire pit for classic S’mores roasting—a perfect lumberjack party activity!
Lumberjack Party Favors
As a fun and creative take-home gift, guests received sets of tied-together twig-style colored pencils, paired with favor tags that read:
“I’m PLAID that you came! – Leo”
It was a simple, rustic, and memorable way to thank our guests for celebrating with us.
